Litter Ordinance Summary

-The purpose of the Litter Ordinance is to insure the public health, safety and general welfare of Chippewa County residents.

 

-Litter means any uncontainerized garbage, refuse, and/or yard waste deposited other than in a proper receptacle.

 

-It is the responsibility of any person to maintain premises in a reasonably clean and orderly manner.  Failure to meet this requirement within 24 hours of notification is a violation of this ordinance.

 

-Any person who violates or refuses to comply shall be subject to a forfeiture of not less than $100 nor more than $500.  Each day a violation exists shall be a separate offense.

 

-Reports of violations to the Litter Ordinance can be reported to the Recycling Office at 726-7999 or the Sheriff’s Department at 726-7701.
