Stormwater Management

In January of 2004, Chippewa County accepted a grant award from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to prepare a joint stormwater management plan for the community. Other municipalities participating include: Eagle Point, Lafayette and the Village of Lake Hallie. The Chippewa County Highway and Zoning Departments are also working with the Land Conservation Department.

The purpose of the grant is to develop a common stormwater plan and program to meet state permit requirements. Components of the stormwater planning initiative are as follows:

1. Develop a targeted Information/Education program.

2. Develop and implement a public participation program.

3. Review current erosion control activities and develop construction site pollution control ordinance as necessary.

4. Compile and evaluate existing stormwater management activities currently conducted by the county and municipalities in the project area.

5. Develop ordinances which met EPA Phase II requirements for post-construction site stormwater discharges.
